Stéphane spent his career on the largest sites WordPress runs, and led the engineering teams behind them.
Mikey helped build the commerce software behind close to a third of the world’s online stores, and is part of the team bringing AI into WordPress core.

Stéphane has spent the past twenty years on mission-critical sites. At WordPress.com VIP he helped the engineering teams behind some of the platform’s biggest names architect their infrastructure, reviewing what they built and telling them what would hold up before it shipped. When the pandemic hit, he led the build of the portal healthcare providers across Canada used to notify people of a possible COVID exposure. He was CTO at XWP, leading a team that grew to seventy engineers and owning the technical bar across its enterprise builds. Before joining VIP, he’d built the multisite behind a national political party, more than 600 sites that together processed millions in donations. The same tools that power websites with hundreds of millions of pageviews are now those he offers as part of Principal WP for agencies.

Mikey is a member of the WordPress Core AI team working on how AI fits into WordPress itself. Before joining Principal WP, Mikey worked at Automattic as part of WooCommerce, the software that runs close to a third of the world’s online stores and moves tens of billions of dollars in sales a year. He also worked on some of the world’s largest publishing sites at WordPress.com VIP, where he mentored other team members, and at XWP, where he was the technical lead on large projects. Mikey was a freelancer and worked for 3 agencies, all of various sizes. He knows what it’s like to answer emails and keep projects moving while client requests pile up.
“Always looking to provide a solution to the problem at hand without sacrificing performance, security, or the long-term maintainability of the code.”
